Mastery
Programme
Mathematics is the science of QUANTITATIVE relations and spatial forms of the REAL WORLD (definition of mathematics by A. N. Kolmogorov).
The ancient Greeks were fond of mathematics. Mathematics is the "queen of sciences"; other sciences often use the language of mathematics to describe the existing order and patterns.
Math is interesting and a lot of fun! If you study it from where it begins - the observation of the real surrounding world.
Numerals are symbols (invented squiggles!). Numerals - reflect of numbers. Number is quantity. There are only 10 numerals, but we have infinity of numbers...
Davis Math Mastery programme starts with quantities, then moves on to the numbers, and only then goes to the numerals. At the very end of programme maths goes onto the paper.
Main steps of the programme for correcting problems in mathematics:
1. Obtaining 3 internal tools for attention control:
- focusing. Helps to establish easy focus when needed. And also allows adjustment if focus is lost.
- control of the internal level of energy. For example, when we worry, our internal energy level rises, which makes it difficult for us to focus. This tool will allow to notice the change and return to a required level.
- release. With this tool, you can get rid of the tension that has arisen because of confusion and create a good environment for focusing.
With the set of self-monitoring tools, a person learns to examine the material, being studied, to identify confusion. Also this makes it possible to understand what needs to be done so that confusion does not arise.
The practice of using tools on the example of the alphabet.
Study of the word structure: meaning and two symbols of the word (word sound and spelling). Practice in creating the models for a different words. It helps to create images for the missing math's concepts.
2. Mastering the basic concepts for understanding mathematics:
- I
- change,
- consequence,
- cause and effect,
- before and after,
- time (day and year standards),
- 5 kinds of sequences: by size, amount, time, arbitrary order and importance,
- order and disorder.
-3. 12 exercises: from math in quantity to math on paper:
Quantitative mathematics.
- counting.
- order is the base of mathematics. The importance of order and consistency. (Very fun exercise! :-) ),
- concepts of addition and subtraction,
- the concept of multiplication as addition in groups,
- countdown and subtracting,
- multiplication table - in the form of a grid of 10x10 balls,
- functional definition of mathematics,
- the concept of division using a grid of 10x10 balls,
- common fractions
- mathematical terms - functional symbols of arithmetic, numbers and their symbolic part - numerals. Creating three-dimensional symbols - numerals from plasticine with mandatory binding to numbers.
- decimal system and decimal fractions.
Math on paper:
- we transfer all the knowledge gained into symbols: numerals, mathematical signs, algorithms.
We complete the program by working on specific topics by the request of the client, which are not included in the official part of the correction program.
Meanwhile, during the program, we visualize the basic principles of mathematics (counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, multiplication table, division with remainder, fractions, decimal system, equations), which makes it easy to navigate in the selection and application of the necessary algorithms for solving problems.
Creating some physical world models for terms, used in math assignments and tasks. The rest is left for homework.
As a result of the program , the client has a clear correlation between all arithmetic operations: addition and subtraction naturally transfer and complement each other, addition by groups turns into multiplication, subtraction by groups into division. Then a fractional part appears in the division: common fractions, decimals. Percentages, proportion and ratio can be added by the request of the client...
Then you can organically impose simple geometric concepts: perimeter and area, and also run algebra, for example: the formula for calculating the area of a rectangle is suitable for any rectangles, but how can we write it down? - with the help of letters (the lengths of the sides change, but the calculation of the area remains constant), so for the first time letters appear instead of numbers ...
But the Math mastery programme, according to the Ronald Davis method, unfortunately, stops at the stage of ordinary fractions and decimals, as it is limited in time (30-60 hours). But on such a solid foundation, a wise tutor will build the rest...
Davis Math Mastery Programme for correcting problems in mathematic works with cause of the problems: first confusion, dissolve it and then teaches a new order. After completing homework and regularly using self-monitoring tools for attention, a person develops confidence in performing mathematical tasks, which often leads to a feeling of love for mathematics.
Summarising up the above, it turns out that it is quite possible to be both a physicist and a lyricist at the same time.
I wish you success and love for mathematics!
